Ceramics - Levels 2 - 4AP
This class focuses on teaching art skills, practices, vocabulary, and concepts primarily through the production of functional and sculptural ceramic art. Each class will contain students in levels 1 - 4AP mixed together, which helps to foster collaborative learning and creativity between students. Grading is non-competitive, and each student is graded solely on their fulfillment of project requirements, participation & effort, and improvement from project to project. Due to timing constraints, we may make artwork out of other 2D and 3D media; this is most likely to happen at the end of each semester as I try to get all clay pieces fired before students leave.
All classes will also be learning how to be better communicators through our art, as we practice "meaning making" in 2 ways, as defined by preeminent art educator, Olivia Gude: "one, is to engage and understand cultural productions through active interpretation; a second is to act as a maker—creating works from which the artist and others draw meaning, pleasure, and purpose." We will also be focusing on opportunities to practice responsible decision making, in regards to using self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness to help guide mindful choices and problem solving.
